I am back for another year of One Little Word. The concept is simple, choose a word to guide your year & see where it takes you. Last year’s word SIMPLIFY was a smash success, both Chris and I felt that it really hit home for us and was more effective than resolutions we’ve had in the past.
This year we’ve each chosen our own word. While it was great to work on simplify together, it will be a unique challenge to each have our own word as well. My word for 2017 is Balance.
I am participating in the One Little Word class by Ali Edwards again this year, and while I found it a great motivator, I wanted to give the project a bit of my own spin as well. There were a few prompts that didn’t resonate with me (ironically enough the music one, I experience music in such a different way that the lyrics are often an afterthought, and short of including the score, there isn’t a good way to include the notes in my album) and I wanted to add a little bit of the successes I experienced last year by having some little goals.
Make a Meal Plan
We eat so much better when I am organized and have a plan. My goal is to make a plan for at least 2 weeks of every month. I find that sometimes we eat out and a meal can get bumped. I can also include some easy to improvise meals to round out the plan (like taquitos or chicken fingers…. easy)
Drink More Water (less Soda)
Really this is about dropping the soda. Or at least limiting it. I drink a lot of Diet Coke, and I want to choose some healthier options this year.
Read a New Book
I’d like to read one new book a month this year. This will of course be easier during the summer, but I want to make a point of it during the school year as well.
Do One Creative Project a Month
This will likely be a few of my sewing projects, but once summer hits maybe some gardening as well. I’m also going to include little projects like Day in the Life and Week in the Life here, but spread them out over the year so that they don’t bunch up.
Practice Yoga 12 times a month
As part of my health goals I want to practice yoga (a very visual balance…) 12 times each month. I won’t be too upset if I substitute this one for swimming, but yoga might be a little easier to do at home.
I made a little card to keep track of these things each month, and I’m planning to blog about them every month as well (a la Kelsey, Especially, I loved her monthly OLW posts last year) but I know I won’t make it for the 1st each month, so I’m going to aim my updates for the 5th of every month.
