Hello February. 2017 had a bit of rough start for me. I had been feeling a bit slow and thought my Thyroid medication needed an update, so I went into my doctor and found my self scoring higher than I would normally score on some depression screening questions (with my thyroid numbers being healthier than they have ever been). Thankfully, I have an excellent Doctor who recognized my symptoms right away and recommended me to counselling. I was able to see someone right away, and am already starting to see the benefits of talking to someone.
I still had some progress on my goals and wanted to update those here as well.
Make a Meal Plan
I found a great pin on Pinterest for a January meal plan. I used her 30 day Healthy Slowcooker menus and recipes, you can find it here. I managed to make the first two weeks of the menu. I loved that there weren’t a lot of “out there” ingredients in the shopping list. We always like to rate our recipes, so if you are interested here is what they scored around our house.
Teriyaki Chicken = 7/10
Pork with spiced apples = 6/10 (this is a combined score, my score was 8 and Chris’ was 4… but he never likes pork and apples….)
Lasagne Soup = 8/10
Chicken Tikka Masala = 9/10 (this was amazing, but I would recommend thickening the sauce before you put it over rice)
Greek Chicken = 7/10 very good, but wouldn’t feed a large crowd.
Drink More Water (less Soda)
I am drinking more water at work since I brought a mug for on my desk instead of using my half broken water bottle, but at home I am having a harder time sticking to water. I need to remember to drink a full glass first thing, but unless I start out well the rest of the day doesn’t seem to follow!
This is going to be a top priority in February though!
Read a New Book
We had a lovely family library day early in the month to pick up some new books. I read a biography of Kate Middleton, which is outside of my usual genre. It was very interesting to read about her life and the relationship between her and Prince William. We also finished up watching season 1 of The Crown on Netflix at the same time, so it was very interesting to have a little glimpse into how the monarchy functions.
Do One Creative Project a Month
I spent a little bit of time this month re-decorating our guest room. I had some birthday money and purchased some knock-off Eames style chairs at Superstore (2 for $74!!) and put one at my desk and the other in the downstairs guest room. I also pulled together a matching bed set (black and white) and then filled the long wall with black frames. I am slowly filling them with some art work, but it is taking a little longer than I thought to fill up all of them.
Practice Yoga 12 times a month
Here I failed spectacularly. I joined my sister in the Wanderlust TV yoga challenge, but only managed to complete day 1. Oy. I am hoping to get out and go to a class a few times this month as it has been so long since I practiced, and it is hard to find the peace and quiet at home.
